Hey bookworms! Lately I’ve been really into podcasts, specifically horror dramas. I live for them and I just can’t get enough of them! I love to listen to podcasts when I’m getting ready, on the ride to Uni, in-between classes, during lunch, while doing homework. Pretty much all the time and because of that I tend to finish them off too soon. Then the struggle of finding another good one. So, if you also have a love for horror drama podcasts, here are some of my favorites. And if you have any suggestions, let me know! I’m always looking out for new podcasts!
The Black Tapes – This is “a serialized docudrama about one journalist’s search for truth, her enigmatic subject’s mysterious past, and the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both.” This was the first podcast I ever listened to back in 2016 (?). I was on a road trip to Las Vegas when I discovered it and was hooked ever since. At the time I didn’t know about audio dramas, so I thought this was 100% real. It was really good, although I think the ending could have been done better. It felt rushed in a way and left on a cliffhanger. They did mention in 2018 that the show might come back for another season but that hasn’t happened yet.
Darkest Night – “Darkest Night is a binaural audio drama that places you, the listener, at the center of a recovered memory that sounds as though it’s happening around you in real time. Each chapter delves into the last memories of the recently deceased, slowly revealing a horrifying master plan.” My friend showed me this one and holy crap it was so good! I do have to warn that it has a lot of gore, obviously you don’t see it but you do hear it. If you ever saw me in public while listening to this, I’m pretty sure I looked like this the entire time:
Lake Clarity – “Five teens head up to Camp Clarity to celebrate their last summer together, but little do they know they’re about to stumble on dark secrets that surround the lake.” This is the most recent one I’ve listened to and it’s actually pretty short. The episodes are short so it’s pretty easy to binge it all in one day (like I did). It does leave on a cliffhanger and last I heard the creators are trying to raise money to do another season, however it’s been 2 years since that announcement so it could take a while.
Now here are some honorable mentions. These aren’t horror dramas but they are pretty interesting stories.
Lore – “Lore is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed podcast about true life scary stories. Lore exposes the darker side of history, exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares.” I’ve probably learned so much through this podcast than I have ever learned in a history class. I love how it tends to dive deep into folklore from all kinds of places in the world.
Let’s Not Meet – “True horror stories written by those that made it out alive. First person accounts narrated and produced by Andrew Tate in an anthology of terror and suspense.” These stories come from the Reddit page of the same title, where people post their personal horror stories. A lot of these are pretty terrifying since they are real and can happen to anyone. I’ll admit, this podcast has made me a little more paranoid, but it is better to be safe than sorry. For a dramatic effect, I would listen to this on the speaker when I would be home alone, which I always make sure I am armed with anything that can be used as a weapon (or near the trash to take out the machete me dad keeps there in case of an intruder).
If you do listen to any of these I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! At the time of writing this post I have started Limetown (another docudrama) and have Dreamboy saved for later. If you have any podcast suggestions please let me know. I’m always looking for new podcasts since I go through them fast. Until next time!
