Wrap Up

October 2019 Wrap Up

Hey bookworms! Pretty sad that October is over but you know what spooky season isn’t over until the first day of winter. That’s my ruling and I will live by this until further notice. Anyway, this month I pretty much stuck to my spooky TBR and managed to get pretty far; I’m kind of proud of myself.

Wrap Up:

A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares – Krystal Sutherland | My rating: ★★★★★ I loved this book so much and how it handled mental illnesses. I would highly recommend this one.

Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel – A. W. Jantha | My rating: ★★★✰✰ The first part just retold the Hocus Pocus movie and the second part was the sequel. I thought it was okay – nothing too special about it. The sequel just seemed to have the same plot but with POC and queer characters for the sake of being inclusive.

More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark – Alvin Schwartz | My rating: ★★★✰✰ I feel like these stories were scary when I was little but now that I reread them it’s just like “really? you were scared of this?”

Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones – Alvin Schwartz | my rating: ★★★✰✰ Same thing with the previous Scary Story book. Scary then but not now. However the movie adaptation of the this series was pretty amazing.

In the Hall with the Knife – Diana Peterfreund |My rating: ★★★✰✰ This is one of those books where you kind of enjoy it at the moment but if you go back and really think about it, you realize that some things don’t add up. You can read my full review here.

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein – Kiersten White | My rating: ★★★★✰ I loved this book so much too even though I didn’t give it a five star rating. I would but there were small details that I didn’t enjoy. It did give me a book hangover though.

General Update:

I don’t think I bought any books this month and I haven’t started any books as of now. I am trying to decide what to read next and it’s a tie between Wintersong and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. At the same time, I’m wondering if I should just wait until my copy of Supernova comes in the mail which should be coming this week. Decisions… decisions…. I’ll probably end up reading a smaller book between now and when Supernova arrives.

At the rate I’m going I just might finish my reading challenge by the end of November (*knocks on wood so I don’t jinx myself*). Until next time!
