Bookish Playlist 3: Cinder

I recently reread Cinder by Marissa Mayer (just started rereading Scarlet too) and as promised, I conducted a playlist for it. I didn’t really listen to music while reading as I do with other books. Normally I try to keep the songs in order of the storyline, but unfortunately that’s not the case here. Reminder: I will try my best to make this spoiler free, but just in case, beware of spoilers!!!!

1. Gold Dust Woman – Fleetwood Mac
   a. Queen Levana’s theme song. Key lyrics:
   Did she make you cry
   Make you break down
   Shatter your illusions of love
   And is it over now do you know how
   Pick up the pieces and go home.
   b. I feel like this really goes well with they way she uses her glamour to try to seduce Prince Kai.
2. Is There Something I Should Know – Duran Duran
   a. A song for now crowned Emperor Kai who is left bamboozled at the night of the grand ball.
3. You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me – Cher
   a. I honestly don’t remember adding this to the list, but let’s just go with it. It’s a good song.
4. She’s in Parties – Bauhaus
   a. A very catchy song that reminded me of Cinder at the ball.
5. Under the Milky Way – The Church
   a. Very fitting for the Lunar population (and Earthens)
6. Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division
   a. A ship that possibly sunk 😭😢
7. Holiday on the Moon – Love and Rockets
   a. Another very fitting song for Queen Levana and the Lunars.
8. Spellbound – Siouxsie and the Banshees
   a. I just really like this song.
9. National Anthem – Lana del Rey
   a. This was at one point a song I was listening to while reading.
10. You’re No Different – Ozzy Osborne
    a. This reminded me of how Lunars are judged based on their Queen. We don’t know if all Lunars are bad like Levana and I feel like Cinder wouldn’t be judged if she explained that she had no idea either until recently.
11. Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls
    a. Cinder’s song (not her theme song though)
    b. Particularly:
    And I don’t want the world to see me
    ‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
    When everything’s meant to be broken
    I just want you to know who I am
    c. because it reflects how Cinder just wants to let Kai know the truth, but she can’t either because she’s afraid of what he’ll say or because she’s not given the chance to explain herself.
